For Colorado forward Valeri Nichushkin, the past few weeks have been very stressful. Because of an injury, he has played in only one game this season and, more recently, tested positive for testosterone prior to the Sochi Olympics. He now faces a four-year ban from international competitions. However, despite the difficult emotional background, the player is focused exclusively on hockey. Today he returned to the ice and scored a goal against Vancouver (7-1). Nichushkin's team snapped a two-game losing streak and played hard against their opponent. Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko, who has made numerous unbelievable saves this season, will quickly forget tonight. After six missed pucks on 26 shots, the American gave way in goal to Jaroslav Galak. Nichushkin started the rout and opened the scoring in the fourth minute of the game. This was Valery's first goal of the season, scored on a 5-on-4 formation. He spent a total of 17 minutes on the ice and hit two shots on goal.

Vancouver forward Vasily Podkolzin finally got more playing time (13:33) but today it was extremely difficult to show any action. The Russian had two shots on goal, two minutes of penalties and a utility rating of -2.

A dramatic shootout took place in St. Louis. "The Bluesmen took on Nashville at home and after the first period led 2-0 thanks to a double by Jordan Kairo. However, after the first break, the visitors pulled themselves together and took the lead. The Predators' third goal of the game came from Russian forward Yakov Trenin. This was his first goal of the season. The forward is in his third season with Nashville and has proven to be an extremely useful low-end player. Trenin knows how to fight for the puck near the boards, make a spectacular power play, wave his fists if necessary, and sometimes he scores very important goals.

Vladimir Tarasenko, who had previously failed to score in three straight games for the first time during the season, responded to his compatriot's goal. The unlucky streak came to an end and the forward scored a goal. Despite the tight guarding by Nashville players, Vladimir managed to get close to the goal and outshot David Rittich. In 12 games, Tarasenko had 12 (5+7) points. Not bad for a forward whose career was derailed by many not so long ago. His team lost in overtime, but Vladimir's goal helped St. Louis stay in the game without a point. The other Russian Bluesmen - Pavel Buchnevich, Klim Kostin and Ivan Barbashev - did not score.
